Sacral Chakra

They are seven chakras in the body. However, today we are going to focus on the second chakra, the sacral chakra. This this chakra is formed between the ages of 8 and 14 and just the beginning of developing a sense of self.

The sacral chakra is located about two inches below the belly button and is all about creativity, sexual energy, and relating to our emotions of others.

When balanced, the sacral chakra radiates warmth, confidence, and generosity. When imbalanced, it leads to feelings of fear, being overwhelmed, depression, emotional instability, loss of creativity, and addictive behaviors.

Here are six ways to balance the sacral chakra:

All of the 7 chakras are associated with a different color. The sacral chakra is orange, so it's helpful if you use any shade of orange if you're going to do sacral chakra work. Some examples are, tiger's eye or camelion crystals would be ideal stones to incorporate into a sacral chakra practice.

Continuing with the color orange, it suggested to nourish the chakra with orange foods. Examples are the following:

  • Nuts and seeds

  • Pumpkins

  • Sweet potatoes

  • Carrots

  • Mangos

  • Butternut Squash

  • Orange citrus fruit

  • Water infused with clementines, oranges, tangerines, and etc.

Create a routine that allows for hip opening stretches or yoga postures. When the chakra feels blocked it normally indicates that stagnant energy is trapped there. Try movements that focus on the hips and lower apps. Examples could be free flowing dance or butterfly pose ( baddha konasana). See previous blog post for the other poses.

Participate in chakra balancing meditations. These types of meditations help you get still and tune into the energy center that's been focused on.

Allow stillness to become your friend. With emotions and intimacy being the center of the sacral chakra, allows space and time with stillness and mindfulness. This allows for the connection of our emotions and process them in healthier ways. Create a routine of sitting with crossed legs or comfortably for a few minutes to observe the smells, feelings, and sensations of the present moment. Each week add an additional minute or two.

Write your feelings down. Lastly, start with a habit of journaling to help connect to your emotions. Here are some possible questions to ask yourself as a writing prompt:

  • Am I happy with my sex life?

  • What are some of the things I'm currently creating or giving to the world?

  • What would I feel like if I was empowered in my creativity and sexuality look like?

Chakra balancing is like everything else, it's not going to happen overnight. However, some of these strategies might help you with your sacral chakra as you take this path to abundance creativity and for fulfillment.
